A recipient of various awards which include an Academy Award, a British Academy Film Award as well as the Primetime Emmy Award, and two Golden Globe Awards, she is regularly ranked among the world's highest-paid actresses. Time magazine listed her as one of the 100 most influential people around the globe in the years of 2015 and 2006. Forbes also named her one the 100 Most Powerful Women Worldwide in 2019. Forbes has named her the world's richest actress in 2021. Her net worth is estimated to be $400 million. Witherspoon first appeared on screen in 1991 when she was she was a teenager. In 1999, the actress made her breakthrough with the character of the supporting actor in Cruel Intentions. She was also famous for playing Tracy Flick as Election's black comedy. Her roles in Legally Blonde (2001 and its sequel 2003) as well as in Sweet Home Alabama (2002 ) brought her greater recognition. In 2005 she won praise from critics and was awarded the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance as June Carter Cash in the musical biopic Walk the Line. After a career decline, the only box office hit was Water for Elephants (2011). Witherspoon returned to the screen with the production and role in Wild (2014). She got an additional Academy Awards nomination for Best Actress. Since then, she's been working mostly in the field of television, producing and appearing in numerous female-led literary adaptations for the banner of her company Hello Sunshine. They include Big Little Lies, an HBO drama series (2017-2019), The Morning Show and an Apple TV+ drama series (2019-present) and Little Fires Everywhere (2020). The Primetime Emmy Award was won for Outstanding Limited Series in the first episode of the series. She also directed the films Gone Girl (2014), and Where the Crawdads Sing (222). She is a member of the board of the Children's Defense Fund and was honored to serve as the chair of Avon Foundation's foundation's charitable cause for women in 2007.
